Nature Connection: It is all about how we show up.

The first of a series of discussions on nature connection, how to achieve it and the benefits.

Showing up the right way in nature is essential if you want to connect with mother earth and your nature family. What does ‘showing up the right way’ mean and how can we do that?

When we enter nature we are being perceived by nature and it is a two way interactive experience. Mother earth and all living things have consciousness and can be communicated with. Plants, for example, have at least 20 senses (compared to our five) and are capable of solving problems and learning from past experience. They will even respond to the colored shirt you are wearing. If we do not have this understanding we are in a one way relationship and we cannot make full connection.

Mother earth has brought forward everything we know including the bodies we inhabit as spiritual beings. Yes or bodies come from the earth and return to the earth. Through our bodies we get to have a sensory experience of the rest of mother earth’s creation and explore our creative ability. When I think about this I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and humbled by it.

Just like or human relationships it is important we show up with respect and an open mind free of preconceived ideas and beliefs. Here are some preparation strategies for you to use next time you wish to connect with mother earth or nature. These are not hard and fast rules and the order is not critical as it is an individual thing. However, you can start with these, or just one of them, and as your relationship builds you can modify them accordingly.

You will notice that after each one I have suggested that you pause for silence and stillness before you move on to the next. This is important and don’t be impatient. If you are going to have a relationship you must provide opportunity for mother earth and nature to communicate with you. That is, take the time to listen just like you would to another person you wanted to get to know. Do not expect to hear a voice as the language of nature is a felt language. If you are energy sensitive you will feel this and understanding will come into your awareness. Don’t try to make this happen and do not be disappointed if it does not initially. If you continue exploration in this way your energy sensitivity will increase and it will come in its own time.

  • On arrival acknowledge mother earth and nature as being conscious, introduce yourself by name, give thanks for the body you have been given, that mother earth provides for its needs and health and the opportunities provided via this incredible gift. Pause awhile and be silent.
  • Share anything you wish to about yourself that you feel is important by way of introduction. This is your first conversation and it can be silent in your mind or out loud. Then be still and silent for a couple of minutes and aware of your feet on the ground.
  • Acknowledge traditional landowners, Indigenous ancestors who have walked this country for many thousands of years before you; and the spirits of the land, plants and animals. Pause for stillness and silence.
  • Ask permission to enter and walk across this part of the country. Pause for stillness and silence
State or reaffirm your positive intent in life that is aligned with mother earth and nature. For example: ‘I affirm that I wish to make a contribution to a sustainable future’, or ‘I affirm that I wish to be a better father/mother to my children’, or ‘I affirm that I wish to provide appropriate leadership for a better future for all’, or ‘I affirm that I recognise mother earth and nature as living conscious beings and wish to explore these relationships, etc. It does not matter what it is as long as it also serves mother earth and nature as well as you. Pause for stillness and silence.
  • Sate in what way you are showing up and why you have come. For example it could be something like “I come with an open heart and mind and seek healing”, or “I seek wisdom and guidance for ……….. (Whatever it is that you want to resolve)”, etc. The important thing is to understand this statement is specific to something that you need to accomplish to fulfill your positive life intent. Pause and be still and silent.

Then simply begin walking, stay out of your intellect, be heart centered, and begin your exploration of relationship with mother earth and nature.

If you would like to join with others in this exploration Check the events page or the Facebook page to see if there are any events coming up near you

In future posts I will explore nature connection topics such as optimising connection, the language of nature, healing, wisdom access, calling forward what you need, the processing power of mother earth and spiritual growth.

First Conversation – Reflections

There were many powerful outcomes and challenges from the first ‘Many Tribes Many People’ conversation held last Thursday. The most immediate for me was hearing about the endless conversations that Aboriginal people have been invited into since colonisation that have rarely served them. Instead their cultural information and knowledge has been stolen and exploited, or it is to satisfy the curiosity of white people, or information is gathered so that they can be managed by others under the banner of ‘deciding what is best for them’. Rarely has anything eventuated from these conversations for the benefit of Aboriginal people and their culture.

That Aboriginal people have not been listened to and have not benefited from these conversations is evident by the terrible health, social, legal and cultural issues they face. To hear that an Aboriginal nation to the North East of Perth has one remaining Elder who has the original language, and the subsequent loss of cultural knowledge and wisdom, was just one example of many.
This challenges us in developing these conversations. John Mogridge and I have already established some things that we feel are necessary. They include:

Decolonisation and peacemaking with Harley Eagle.

It was wonderful to have Harley Eagle visit us in Perth in late January. His talks on decolonisation, cultural integrity, healing of intergenerational trauma, restorative justice and peacemaking were informative and deeply moving.

Harley’s talks created a bridge between the past and the present, and between Aboriginal and non-aboriginal people. His information brought a greater understanding of the colonist mindset and why racism exists in our world. Each one of us was invited into a deeply personal exploration of decolonisation as well as a collective healing journey. A list of additional resources and some highlights are provided below.

Nicely summarised, Kelly! After Harley’s talk, I found an interesting program talking about Oxytocin and felt it had real relevance to the points he made around parenting (that is not overly controlling and protective) and the skill of comforting children to help them to develop coping skills. The use of alcohol/drugs may be sought for comfort that was missing in childhood due to being taken away from parents, or the stolen generation not learning the skills at their parent’s knees. Thanks Caroline, this is great. There was so much in Harley’s information its wonderful to see how it is percolating for different people. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I look forward to the ongoing exploration of this and the other resources Harley and Sue have provided.

New Mexico and New Consciousness

Why travel to New Mexico from Perth for two and a half weeks? There are a bunch of reasons but mostly because I will go where I feel called to be for learning and growth. I begin my latest journey mid March.

There has been a lot of work in the US with circle in all sorts of settings, and there are some very good and experienced process trainers there. Many are utilizing it to contribute to change in their own way and one of these, a respected friend and associate on the leading edge of transformational training in the US, is holding a residential immersive toward the end of March. The purpose is to bring together those who are active in change and understand process to explore new consciousness. This refers to an emerging understanding of a way forward beyond conventional awareness and thinking. Many people are aware of it and once accessed a great deal of accumulative information and wisdom is available to guide us toward a better future.

New consciousness

I am looking forward to this event as it is this consciousness that pulls The Nature Code forward in its evolution. This is something I first became aware of in the 1980’s during an extended nature immersion experience and it has guided my activities ever since. The opportunity to hear from others working with similar processes in their own way, and join with them in exploration is not to be missed. In events such as this the challenge is to stay in process and allow gathered energy to do its thing without interfering or exercising control. At times it is intense but you soon learn to not dissipate it via unnecessary talk or actions and hold the space. The energy of the new consciousness drives transformational change and any associated turbulence soon passes. After this comes increased awareness, insight, wisdom access and much more.

Crazy Hippy Bus

We have come to refer to our journey with The Nature Code in this way as we never know where it is going or what will happen next.

Working with self-organising and transformational process in TNC project has challenged us to continually release mechanistic thinking, structures and the need to be in control. Each time we do this TNC shifts and morphs with changes in thinking and direction. At times it has seemed to disappear down a rabbit hole only to resurface somewhere else looking completely different. Not just new clothes but fundamentally different. It certainly has been an interesting adventure and the ‘Crazy Hippy Bus’ is in great shape and not so crazy after all.

Our aim has been to go with the flow of the project and allow it to inform us where it wants to go rather Read more…

The Karri Tree

Burnt out and ejected from the business world I landed in the the tall timber country of the South West of Western Australia. There I purchased a badly treated and rundown dairy farm with the idea of building a house by hand and establishing organic gardens as part of my recovery. However the exhaustion was such I could not find the psychological or spiritual strength to put my plans into action. This was the 1980’s, I was in my early 30’s and it was way too early in my life to be feeling so ruined. It was with a wry irony and sadness I realised the farm and I mirrored each other.

Fortunately I felt called to a forest adjacent to the property and began walking within it regularly. Read more…

Megan Hannen.

Thankyou, for sharing your experience! I too have lived in the bush, (as a farmer) and I loved to walk in the neighbouring Bush Block! Thank you for sharing your experience and connection. Now I know I am not the only one! Cheers!

HI Megan, Thank you for leaving this comment. There are many of us and there seems to be a growing awareness of the need to reconnect with Mother Earth and Nature for our health, a better future and to learn how to live in right relationship. You may be aware there is a growing regenerative farming movement in Australia these days. This is about regenerating soil health and the landscape yet maintaining profitability. They are making great progress and demonstrating the knowledge we need is available. For them relationship with nature is paramount. Charles Massey from the Easter States wrote a great book called “Call of the Reid Warbler. If you have not read it yet well worth doing so as he has researched this movement in Australia and provides a comprehensive description of what is going on. It is so important we treat the land right and produce clean healthy food.

Hopefully Humanity realise we are the earth, the “forest elder”, the environment, ….then we`ll be moved to protect our loving mother earth same way as we would ourselves. Your work is truly inspiring thankyou

NOW IMAGINE FOR A MOMENT THAT THIS IS A SPIRITUAL MOMENT. LIFE, THE UNIVERSE AND CONNECTEDNESS OF MOMENTS LIKE THIS CAN ONLY BE FOUND DEEP WITHIN. MANY WHO FIND IT ARE OVER-WHELMED. MANY WHO WALK THE SAME PATH ONLY SEE TREES AND FEEL CUT OFF FROM ALL THEY HAVE EVER KNOWN………. NOW STEP OUTSIDE OF YOUR SELF AND IMAGINE YOU ARE AN ABORIGINAL WITH VERY LITTLE AND THIS IS YOUR GARDEN OF EDEN. EACH BREATH IS ONE WITH YOUR RELIGION, PAST, PRESENT AND KITCHEN. YOUR WHOLE LIFE IS HERE. THEN ALONG COMES THOSE OF A DIFFERENT RACE WHO BELIEVE IN A MATERIAL WORLD. YOU ARE DRAWN INTO IT AND CAUGHT UP IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT SPHERE OF BEING AND EXISTENCE. ONE WHERE YOU DO NOT LISTEN TO THE FORREST SONG. ONE WHERE YOU ARE HUNTED AND REJECTED AND STRANGE CUSTOMS AND DISEASES AND IDEAS ASSAIL YOUR VERY BEING. CAUGHT UP IN THE WHIRLPOOL OF NEITHER HERE NOW , OR THERE WHERE IT WAS BEFORE. GRADUALLY THE POISONING OF ONE LEADS TO THE FORGETTING OF THE OTHER. UNTIL A POINT IS REACHED WHEN YOU CAN NOT MOVE FOREWARD OR BACK AND ARE HOOKED ON THE NEW DRUGS OF BACCY, SUGAR, TEA, HAVING TO COVER AND CLOTHE YOUR BODY. ACCEPTANCE OF WHO YOU ARE IS NO LONGER. .. LOST…… LOST……. YOUR CHILDREN ARE BORN TO THIS LOSS…. ALCOHOL… LAND TAKEN… SLAVERY…. NO WHERE TO HIDE….. IT IS FOREVER GONE…… ONE IS A WHITE MAN IN THE NOW WORLD THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN, TOUCHED BY THE NATURAL SPIRIT SO LONG FORGOTTEN BY HIS TRIBE THAT IT BECOMES A NEW WORLD THING THAT MANY TAKE DRUGS TO FIND. MANY DO BUT AT A COST TOO DRAMATIC TO BACK AWAY FROM….. THEY ARE LOST…. LOST …… THE OTHER PERSON IS AN ABORIGINAL THAT CAN NOT LIVE IN THE WHITE WORLD AND IS CAUGHT UP IN THE DRUGS, ALCOHOL, SWEETNESS OF SUGAR AND FIZZY DRINKS, KFC, REJECTED, DEJECTED, KIDS BORN WITH ADDICTIONS, REJECTIONS AND MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS.. THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THIS SECRET WORLD OF THE FORREST. IT IS NEVER TOUCHED ANY MORE BY THE TRIBES.. THEY ARE ALL LOST…. LOST…

The Problem with Leadership

Control Over

The problem with hierarchical “control over” leadership is that it perpetuates crisis. It has its place when there actually is a crisis and fast sound decision making is needed with a recognized chain of command that involves confidentiality, but beyond that it is exploitative. For example, we have seen strong leaders emerge during times of war. When these ‘control over’ structures that are effective in war however, are maintained beyond the crisis they attract people who are interested in positions of power for influence over others and fulfillment of personal greed based agenda.

Creative Mother Earth

Creative Mother Earth

Self-organising and transformational processes are at the heart of evolution and of earth coming into existence as a creative living system with consciousness. Mother Earth has since brought an incredible diversity of life forms into being of which we are one. Humans have mobility and dexterity, an ability to manipulate their environment, and a creative capacity beyond that of any other life form on planet earth.

Beyond Industrialised Mind

To move beyond an ‘industrialised mind’, we need to look outside of the thinking that has created the problems. As the dominant worldview, the industrialised mindset has resulted in the destabilisation of systems and a rush toward the cliff edge of sustainability.

The new sciences that explore systems have revealed a more expansive and inclusive world view that offers solution and transformational outcomes. In this blog I provide an introduction to systems, the related concepts, and what this offers for a better future. I also highlight the incredible importance of indigenous and ancient wisdom for sustainability and transformation.

Thank you Heather, glad you like it. I really enjoyed making this video and will be doing more like it. I was out in the bush again on the weekend, at another special place I go to, and took a whole heap more video to use for sharing of experience in this way. Spent a lot of time connecting and enjoying the energy of Mother Earth. It is wildflower season here and it is a great time to enjoy the expression of beauty as well.
